I have a brown cafe racer jacket that fits like a glove. But I’m athletic with a somewhat muscular build so maybe skinny guys can’t pull it off? It’s gotten me soooo many compliments. I think I want a black leather biker style jacket next though.
Ok the photo you showed is a terrible example, put the cafe racer on a muscular person or someone that really his body type suits the cafe racer jacket and you will see how good that jacket looks on the person.
Leather jacket or any jacket there are people will look good on them and there are people will look bad on them, it all depends on the body type and how well the jacket fits.
When you said "bad boy" and Dorian was styling the jacket I almost spit my coffee. No offense but Dorian is like the polar opposite of a bad boy, plus that look with perfect no-mess haircut, the all buttoned up shirt, the non-distress slim jeans, comes out like a Mormon trying to be edgy.
You're crazy you're complaining about a small little strap on the neck when a biker jacket has straps hanging all over the place zippers all over the place very distracting especially if you're trying to be dapper. I have to disagree strongly with you on this one
What cafe racer jackets are you buying? You do realise that if you're not an actual motorcyclist, you don't need to buy a jacket with padding and armour right? I think leather looks a bit too edgy, I prefer the same style jackets in Melton wool
Why do you hate Cafe Racer/Moto jacket? Put on Biker jacket on the guy at 1:14 and he will look much worse. It is the guy that has bad looks but and weird way of standing which makes him look weird. Also, as pointed out previously in comments, the picture at 2:20 is a Cafe Racer/Moto Jacket and not a Biker as you have mentioned in the video.
Guys Dorian is a good looking guy! If I didn't know he was an entrepreneur I'd think he was a model. The leather jackets work on him, biker jackets can be worn by non bikers...smh. Just like you can wear a bomber jacket without having been a WW2 bomber pilot.
You are way out of your element here. You show little knowledge of different styles of leather jackets. Your opinions are yours and you are entitled to them but you are coming from a fashion perspective. You like stylized leather jackets not genuine historically correct or functional pieces. Basically, there are two categories of leathers, the fashion jackets and the real stuff. You can pick one without downing the other as they are different animals entirely.
Says she won't comment on Café Racer jackets and then goes on to talk about "Biker" jackets while showing a picture of Justin Theroux wearing the quintessential Café Racer jacket... wut?? Plus Café Racer jackets ARE biker jackets, so what the hell...
Totally disagree, all top of the line biker jackets are shinny, calf or lambskin, reflect of the leather quality (McQ, Versace, Burberry, etc.), one can tell from surface texture. You pay what you get for, so even both cheap and expensive ones are shiny, they look like from different world.
Cafe racers with shorter throat tabs and no breast pockets are super sleek. Great alternative you think the waist elastic on bombers breaks up a clean silhouette. And I hate elastic cuffs, they get all warm and itchy
Bomber, Harrington, jacket all day, then trucker. Great points about the subtle tips about the biker jacket. I think biker jackets look great in media but in real life I think, "meh... somebody's trying." I also think that Tom Cruise is the only guy that can pulls off the racer jacket flawlessly. Great vid. Missed these types of vids.
I really dont like café racer style jackets, but yet, amusingly enough, I have one plum colour café racer style jacket that I have been getting compliments on since high-school (good quality jackets seem to last forever.) and yet, typically, I would agree that they aren't typically a great choice of jacket.
Side note: Awesome videos. Love watching them, seen a dozen or so of them today alone (Sundays are always slow days for me), each video is just as good as the last. Keep being awesome! Cheers!
Ashley, I wish that folks would stop categorizing all look alike flight jackets as Bomber jackets. There are several different types, the G1 Navy jacket like I'm wearing in my picture, the Air Force A2 which has a leather collar, the MA1 which is what the version you have in your video. What was really the "bomber jacket" was the B3 sheepskin-lined jacket that B17 bomber crews wore on missions over Germany at high altitudes because they had no heating system.
Eh. I think the double-flap biker look is a bit too 1970's steppenwolf, especially for a younger fellow like myself. I invested in a high quality cafe style jacket from an italian company several years ago, and it fits like dynamite. A properly fit cafe style isn't boxy, but rather streamlined, especially compared to the classic biker. Just has a more modern, edgy vibe to it. I've dressed it up, down, practically sideways at this point. Bombers in my opinion should be suede or a non-leather material. Leather bombers just scream college tryhard to me.
I dunno, thin matte leather on that biker jacket looks like recycled plastic bag, and painted black hardware looks like they are not made from quality metal thus might rust and need to be painted, smooth leather has some sheen when brand new with use it will show grain and wear pattern and if you don't like nickel, there's always antiqued brass or antiqued silver or gunmetal/ ruthenium ... anything but painted because the paint/ enamel will chip and then it will look cheap.
One major issue I notice when wearing jackets zipped up is that the untucked shirt underneath should not be too long (end mid-crotch like you preach). It's weird when there's this puff of fabric spilling out at the bottom.
As for my first leather jacket (a bomber), I actually bought this women's leather bomber jacket in large (I'm a thin Asian): https://pagethirty.com/collections/current/products/frankie-marbled
It's the first women's clothing item I've bought/owned, but A) these leather jackets are unisex in my opinion B) the fit of the chest and arm length/circumference was so spot on C) it's really quality top-grain Italian lambskin leather made in Los Angeles vs somewhere like China or India, which I really don't trust for an item of clothing that I plan on using for more than a decade. The matte finish one with perforated sleeves was the safer bet, but I'm loving the sturdiness and more dressed-up feel the shinier marbled look gives...even though I myself and most people I've run across associate shiny leather with cheap pleather.
Though having Dorian model the clothes in-studio is probably a lot easier, I really prefer having him outside in the alley because it just makes the look more much realistic and flattering IMO.
I think the cafe racer is probably the most common sold jacket, most recommended by most stylist and I think the easiest to pull off by all men. The biker style is nicer looking than a racer but is not for everyone.
haha just bought a cafe racer leather jacket like last week, honestly though, i did a bit of digging before buying it, and i thought it was the best looking one out of all of them, simple but makes a statement. Its black and i wore them this weekend for a date with grey fitted khaki jeans, my jacket is a bit loose on the shoulders but for the most part it is fitted and i think it looks good, and i have gotten compliments on the jacket as well. The little buckle on the collar can get distracting i will admit, but so can shiny zippers and too many pockets and an oversized collar. no offense to dorian, but he doesnt really pull of the leather jacket look very well, maybe he is too clean cut? idk, but i got a cafe racer jacket and then you release this video haha
AW couldn't be more wrong with the Cafe Racer. This jacket is the best all around and has the cleanest look. Bomber is fine if you like it but I find the elastic wristbands are awkward with a watch. Plus you'll need to be careful if you're a huskier man as the elastic waist band will give you a terrible muffin top look. Finally the biker jacket is really only for the few guys who know how to rock street style otherwise it looks gaudy on the average dude.
Could not disagree with you more regarding the Café Racer. They are timeless and effortlessly cool. Those "biker jackets" you are going on about take a great deal of style-sense and attitude to pull off, and definitely not for everyone.
Finally: An updated version of the leather jacket video! Some of my thoughts:
- Little wonder why I wasn't into a cafe racer I had all that much: It can get very "big-box department store"-ish (read: not a great look)
- I have an ink navy (blue-black, if you will) biker jacket from AllSaints and it is one HECK of a jacket! Personally, if you could do away with the epaulets and belt, the more streamlined a biker jacket looks.
- Good thing my style consists of indigo/black jeans, darker-colored trousers, neutral-colored tees/shirts/sweaters and black footwear. They're a great match with my biker!
- As for leather bombers, can't wait to get one! An alternative here would be a nice flight jacket like down this page: http://www.esquire.com/style/mens-fashion/a13470253/mr-porter-launches-mr-p-label/ It even has a detachable shearling collar, which increases its mileage. Too bad it's sold out now. :-|
- Lastly and most importantly: Consider going a size smaller than your usual for your leather jacket. Just like a denim jacket, leather jackets stretch out and will form to your figure; thus, creating a jacket that is truly yours. Besides, the chances of anyone wearing a leather jacket zipped are slim-to-none anyway, so you may as well go smaller.
