Bonds no longer make sense in any portfolio -they are a bigger risk than stocks at present and when the next correction occurs it will start in a rout in the bond market.

Jack mentioned he had two ways in which the industry could change to avoid money managers serving two masters, one of them being the "Adam Smith" solution. Did he ever mention the second one?

i consider Mr. Bogle to be my own personal finance consultant....simply because he was generous enough to answer an email I sent to him. He is an honest and generous fellow, and his formula for success is so simple that anyone can understand it...buy Sp500 (or Tsx 60 index..I'm Canadian) or both..... and then don't sell it. And don't even look at it. What could be more easy? It works over time just like he says. Thank you Mr. Bogle from all of us!

I'm a 55 year old recently retired public employee who listened to Jack's advice when I was relatively new in my career. Thanks to my pension and Vanguard funds and will never work again unless I *WANT* to. Never made a ton of money but stayed the course and avoided most of the pitfalls of investing. I am forever grateful to Mr. Bogle and the miracle of compounding.

"In his early years, Jack was frequently mocked by the investment-management industry. Today, however, he has the satisfaction of knowing that he helped millions of investors realize far better returns on their savings than they otherwise would have earned. He is a hero to them and to me." Buffet on Bogle
