TAKEN Fighting Style | Fight Scene Breakdown

629 ratings | 30467 views
Hey FIT-GAMERS, In this particular Fight Scene Breakdown, we are taking a look at a very quick sequence in the movie Taken. This one was hard to see because of the fast editing techniques and dark lighting, but we figured it out with some good old slow motion. Drill this one out with a friend, it's loads of fun :) Website: http://www.fit-gamers.com/ Ray's Website: http://keysichicago.com/

From the first film? I don't remember an airport scene that has a fight scene. Do you mean with the guy in the taxi?
John Pender (2 months ago)
How about looking at this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtEu3_ElsDA
You have better technique than the actual actor…then again, a lot of people do too

JoeyBslash 3 (8 months ago)
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it and the suggestion. I definitely have that one planned, just need to film it. I try to reply to everyone. I am able to do that now, but as the channel grows, it will get more difficult im sure lol
52misterman (8 months ago)
JoeyBslash 3 Great to see an uploader who replies to comments even long after the video was uploaded - I appreciate that. :) If I may make a suggestion: could you please do the final fight scene from Taken 2 (the one-on-one fight)? I’m also curious as to how realistic that one is, especially with the handwork (I’m not a practitioner of martial arts, but I do appreciate realism in movie fight scenes). Thank you!

Question for you my man I love these breakdowns and will definitely join online gym, I was wondering I know you wil separate the effective moves to the more showy flashy moves if I just focused on the functional effective moves will that be enough moves to consider it a complete well rounded system if I keep training on the online gym functional moves for years?
JoeyBslash 3 (8 months ago)
+Mark Smith for sure bro...i will be putting all my experience into creating a good program. When it comes to functionality, simplicity is key. There will be no high spinning kicks, flips, crazy throws, etc. All functional drills and techniques will be based on reality
Mark Smith (8 months ago)
+JoeyBslash 3 (FIT-GAMER) Awesome brother thanks so much so there will be enough functional material and functional drills to make a complete style?
JoeyBslash 3 (8 months ago)
+Mark Smith Absolutely! The Online gym is going to specialize in training people who have little to no prior experience or training in martial arts. It will have many moves straight from the games, bit it will also have tons of videos on basic drills and techniques that you can work on your own or with a partner. The goal of the gym is to get you up and training. Many of the moves from games will be tweaked as well to have a more functional aspect for self defense. I will most likely show the move as best i can from the game for a fitness aspect...and then show it tweaked for a functional aspect as well

You should never let go of that hand with the knife.
JoeyBslash 3 (10 months ago)
+Rance 808 there is a time and place to let go of it for sure
Leo E36 (10 months ago)
that takedown is not really effective..
Leo E36 (10 months ago)
well i am not a fighter of any kind and even when i tried attending muay thai or boxing classes i didnt like them, i am fresh recruit in special forces and i passed hungarian TEK self defense seminar and have some other basic hand to hand combat techniques they teached me so i can say from my narrow unexperienced view i can really see myself hitting you in several moments, the left arm is free and your head is not covered, also the clock takedown is ehh.. would work if was knocked out already and you would even lift my hand from there unless its broken and i would let you because of severe pain. Also that position how you hold the person on a choke position, you need to extend the arm to full lock and then twist wrist down, also a bit of weight with a knee of a chest would be good too, or even left knee on a neck and right knee on chest(works best if person lays on his chest and you hold your arm behind his back. ALSO when defending from this attack in this kind of style my right arm would be not behind his right arm, i would use my forearm to hit his neck against wall and push up a bit. Thats what i can see, i dont even know how many moves out of this my instructors would do!! TONS
JoeyBslash 3 (10 months ago)
+Leo E36 it's very effective if you have the proper training. Have you even tried it?
Phil Badone (11 months ago)
Another great breakdown, thanks. I like that scissor move on the arm. Now I ask, should I watch all the Taken movies in slow motion, or will they use better camera work so we can actually see all the effort being put into these scenes, it seems like such a waste on the part of the producers.
JoeyBslash 3 (11 months ago)
+Phil Badone Lol, it is kind of a waste. Same with the Bourne movies. I get why they do it and I think it is a good artistic choice, especially the way the rest of the movie is filmed, but you definitely can't see what is going on for the most part. If you watch them in slow motion, you can probably figure it out lol
Kane and Lynch (11 months ago)
Have you made ever Jhon Wick fight style explanations?
Kane and Lynch (11 months ago)
JoeyBslash 3 Yes in that part Jhon made magnificent martial art fight in order to get alive out of other killers hits.
JoeyBslash 3 (11 months ago)
+Kane and Lynch Not yet, I have many planned though. First one will probably be the knife fight on the subway from the 2nd movie
Ken Burke (11 months ago)
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I've always wondered exactly what Bryan Mills did in that scene and now you've showed me!!! May you win the state lottery!!!
JoeyBslash 3 (11 months ago)
Haha! That would be nice lol
neosoulfuljojo (11 months ago)
Can you breakdown the final fight scene with the guy with the karambut in Taken (2008). I'm curious if Liam kneed him in the nuts with the karambit.
JoeyBslash 3 (11 months ago)
+neosoulfuljojo I will probably break that one down sometime. I can already tell you, no, he doesn't knee him in the nuts with it, but he does knee him in the guts with it
Why did he want her dead?
JoeyBslash 3 (10 months ago)
+Ken Burke yea could be for sure
Ken Burke (10 months ago)
From what I gathered it was a classic case of an obsessed fan gone crazy (this is my own opinion. The movie did not elaborate).
I wanna you to make this fight scene in taken 2 : Byan Mills vs. The bad guys with stick.

TheDEATHHIT (1 year ago)
Damn such quick thinking! Awesome video! Joey I have a very important question (has nothing to do with the video), I would love if you could answer. I have always been VERY passionate about learning ninjitsu but I can't EVER find a goddamn place to learn, its such a rare martial art its not even fun searching so much. The question is, is it a viable martial art? Is it something to go for so much? Because I don't see many martial arts I identify with such as ninjutsu. And last, would you recommend any other martial art that I could find that would fit that style?
TheDEATHHIT (1 year ago)
JoeyBslash 3 Cool! Thank you very much for taking the time, you are awesome as always!
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+TheDEATHHIT Lol. I understand. If those are your reasons for training, I believe there are martial arts that will be much more useful nowadays than ninjitsu...unless you want to be an assassin lol. I can only really recommend the martial arts I'm training, Kali and Keysi. I've trained Jeet Kune Do a bit as well. MMA is good to train, but if you want to know how to protect yourself, don't rely on training a sport like MMA, boxing, etc. They are great and can be effective in the street, but they are martial arts based on rules and single opponents. To me, self protection training must include and be heavily based on weapons and multiple opponents.
TheDEATHHIT (1 year ago)
JoeyBslash 3 Yes, you are right in those statements, its actually thought to be more of a tactical warfare thing than a martial art. Anyway, my purpouse? Huuum I think there are 3. 1 - To actually know how to defend myself and whoever need. 2 - To better my body, to do awesome things with it. 3 - One of the characters I'm creating is actually me, and I want to be able to do the things I would do in fiction in real life too, to stay original to me, the character, which is me. Well WTF!? XD
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+TheDEATHHIT Well, I don't know much about ninjitsu at all. I've read that it is not like anything in pop culture, especially when they are dressed in all black. I read they dressed as everybody else to blend into the environment and such. What's your purpose for training and learning martial arts?

how have I not watched this?!
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+California Combatives Club 209 because you're a big lame-o 😉
I realized that martial arts is not all that fancy modes you see in the movies, any form of fighting techniques can get messy. I love the movie taken with Liam neeson. Yes martial arts can work in a street fight it just depends on the person. I had to used a couple of techniques in a actual fight but I remember a couple of those techniques I try to used has failed. I know a lil bit of aikido, jeet kune do, panantukan and 52 blocks but I try to mixed it up with other techniques. I just like to mixed stuffs up but good video Joey.
Aliezah Juarez (2 months ago)
REVOLUTIONARY BLACK LOVE dude I feel the same, to me I learn pretty quick with instincts. Especially with a few martial art technique.
+JoeyBslash 3 thanks the reason why I want to learn martial arts because I want to learn self defense. I'm not trying to be a badass or the next Bruce Lee. I'm just trying to do me. I know it's just entertaining when you practice the modes. I want to learn how to used the sticks. I can't do no spin kicks at all but I can kick.
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+REVOLUTIONARY BLACK LOVE For sure bro! Having a good arsenal to work from is definitely a good idea. But like you said, it takes time, patience, effort, and persistence to weed out the BS if what you're training for is self defense. But if your training for recreation, then by all means, have fun with some unrealistic techniques. It's important to know your purpose of training. Some people just want to get into shape and feel like a badass while doing it. That's where this stuff comes in and I love to do it. However, I know this is not how you train if you want real self defense. I teach choreography/stage combat...but I also teach self defense skills. It's important to know the difference, because many people get them mixed up. I would suggest adding Filipino Kali to your repertoire of martial arts. Weapons are the equalizers
Aanglos3115 (1 year ago)
Which Taken is this ❓ ❓ ❓
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+Den Bob I don't know, it comes from a movie. I wouldn't trust it. I wouldnt trust any technique from a movie. A movie's purpose is to entertain. Real life is real life. Training is the key, but more importantly, training methods. I feel confident after training the clock throw and destructions that they work when performed properly. But in real life the variables in situations like this are substantial. This is choreography from a movie, and I'm just showing what moves or techniques are being employed. The best part about this sequence is the control tactics and strikes before attempting any disarm. What makes it look easy is that the attacker was going after the girl, not Mills. So it was easier for him to gain control of the knife before any strikes were employed.
Den Bob (1 year ago)
JoeyBslash 3, does this counter attack really work in real life? And the way, which Mills throw his opponent by grabing his neck looks very cool.
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)

Jamyang Pelsang (1 year ago)
Awesome. Hoping to see more breakdowns from movies that excessively use shaky cam and quick cuts. They can be really difficult to comprehend. Very helpful to actually learn what's going on.
Jamyang Pelsang (1 year ago)
Making a separate channel may be a good idea. Or just a separate series? It doesn't seem like the hectic camerawork of modern action movies are going to go away any time soon unless John Wick/Atomic Blonde type movies become more popular.
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+Jamyang Pelsang Thanks so much, I appreciate that. I'm glad you enjoy the videos. I might make a separate channel for these. We'll see...
Jaybird196 (1 year ago)
So, the disarm, is a strike to the wrist-bone?
Jaybird196 (1 year ago)
Thanks!
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+Jaybird196 It's known as a destruction in Filipino Martial Arts. Other martial arts may call it something else

I have been wondering how he does this move for years and it turns out that's all Brian was doing man because of the camera angle and the lighting I thought a lot more was going on thank you so much for breaking this down and by the way if you are going to be doing John Wick soon I know what fighting styles Keanu Reeves was trained in for the role and he is trained in the same martial arts in the second movie as well the exact same ones I can tell you if you want me to or if you want to figure it out for yourself that's fine as well whenever you're ready to do John Wick or if you announce it in one of videos I can tell you in the comments if you like well that if you don't already know what he does
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+Gabriel Mann I'm pretty sure he trained Judo and Jiu Jitsu, and then CAR for the firearms training. Then they just combined them for the choreography? I remember watching the special features

Cool! What fight style used Neeson in this trilogy? Kali? It will be great to explore final fight in Taken 2 - https://youtu.be/pm32L_iy-f4
Gabriel C. Arone (1 year ago)
This fight style is Nagasu do, a mix of krav maga, DEFENDU( the fight style used by SAS), wing chun, Kali, karate, aikido and jiu-jitsu, but The most style used in Nagasu do is DEFENDU and Kali
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+Gabriel Mann In the first movie, I heard it was Tang So Doo or something like that. Honestly, when it comes down to it, all martial arts come down to relatively the same conclusions on what works for real. There are things in the film that I've definitely seen in FMA
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+Den Bob yea I'm looking at that final fight scene and figuring it out over these next few weeks
mann cave moment (1 year ago)
Den Bob I don't know very much about kali myself but I do know that they use Kali in the second one at the final fight the one you're talking about
kiba vlood (1 year ago)
Joey please please please do this move it starts from 1:29 to 1:32, the move was considered so dangerous that it was banned in judo competitions and even practicing it along is so dangerous that it might lead to knee injury if not practiced properly even ankle injury. However with careful supervision it can be done flawlessly, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVyjgpeFB9s&t=170s Here is the video explained by a master that its dangerous. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRklGgwpbj0 I understand if its way to dangerous but my curiosity got the better of me, Safe health to everyone, much love and thank you for everything.

Please do the final fight from Legend of the Drunken Master
Next can you do TEKKEN?
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+NOT PRODUCTIVE PRODUCTIONS Actually, I was thinking the same, considering I played a ton of Tekken 3, Tag, and 4 when I was younger.
edi (1 year ago)
After the throw, you had a second chance of breaking his arm. I really like this throw.
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+edi yes indeed, the possibilities from that position are vast
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+Jaybird196 it.could be done over the knee for sure. Also using my hip area. See where I tuck the arm under my arm and straighten it out to isolate the knife? There is definitely a possible break, or at least a wrench right there
Jaybird196 (1 year ago)
edi Thanks. 'Will do :)!

Good movie and that's a very good technique!!!
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+Gabriel Mann Cool, sounds like a good one. I'm going to figure out a way to do multiple opponents stuff with just one assistant, because it's very difficult to get all my training buddies together at the same time, considering all of our schedules
mann cave moment (1 year ago)
JoeyBslash 3 equalizer such a good film I recognize the fighting style they have in it it's Kali but there is a lot of fight scenes where he takes on multiple people as I can recall there's only 2 fight scenes that involved just two people him and his opponent only there is a fight scene in a diner where he uses his environment then there's more of a takedown fight scene shortly after like he gets the drop on the guy in knocks him out
Karasu Muhammad (1 year ago)
You da man Joey 👍🤛
JoeyBslash 3 (1 year ago)
+Karasu Muhammad I've had requests for John Wick, so I will be doing that for sure. The Equalizer I haven't seen yet, so I will check it out. I've heard good things
Karasu Muhammad (1 year ago)
That's true. I wasn't feeling the sequels. It's like the fight scenes were diminishing. Oh and I have a request, now you know you have to do a scene from the 1st John Wick. Or if you're up to it, The Equalizer.
