Step Inside One of the Prettiest Country Houses We've Ever Seen | Small House Design 2018

02:33
Step Inside One of the Prettiest Country Farmhouses We've Ever Seen Nestled in a historic Georgia neighborhood, this new-build farmhouse offers up age-old appeal—and one peach of a front porch. One block off Main Street in a small, picturesque Georgia town (you might recognize it as the backdrop for the likes of movie classics like Fried Green Tomatoes and Driving Miss Daisy), Lauren and Chad Crouch discovered the perfect lot to put down roots for their growing family (daughter Aria, 4, and son Collier, 3). Because the thriving community is known for its turn-of-the-century charm, the Crouches went the thoughtful, respect-your-architectural-elders route and built a farmhouse that blends right in with its time-honored neighbors. The new-meets-old home merges modern amenities (a rock-solid foundation, an open floor plan) with country classics (beamed ceilings, barn doors). "The home across the street was constructed in the late 1800s," says Lauren. "We're so proud our home looks like it was built at exactly the same time." A mix of vintage and catalog finds lends a casual vibe in the living room, where pine bookcases, rescued from a demolished elementary school, keep company with a new linen sofa. An abstract painting by artist —and CL General Store vendor—Deann Hebert adds texture above the chippy mantel. The Crouches utilized reclaimed materials to give the kitchen a lived-in feel. Take, for example, the spacious island supported by antique porch posts or the range hood crafted from salvaged pine. To warm up the white refrigerator, Lauren applied wallpaper with wallpaper paste and, for water-resistancy, sealed with polyurethane. Surrounded by windows on three sides, the sun-drenched dining room offers up ample country views, including a pasture for baby foals. To highlight the scenery, Lauren outfitted the room with understated ivory curtain panels hung from sleek wraparound rods. (The drapery hardware may look high-end but was actually purchased at Ikea for less than $50.) A weathered French pendant spotlights the most sentimental piece in the room: a dining table that Lauren's husband, Chad, crafted using reclaimed wood from her father's barn. Flea market mirrors atop a carpenter's workbench-turned-console set an in-with-the-old tone. A sophisticated gray-brown floral wallpaper (farrow-ball.com) mimics the hue of the weathered ceiling beams and offers a feminine (but not frilly) foil to the room's rustic elements. Formerly a park bench, the piece at the foot of the tufted bed features someone's nearly faded, hand-carved initials. A refurbished 1930s claw-foot bathtub (Appalachian Tubs, 770-324-8701) is a quaint spot to soak in the suds and the sunshine. It's also the perfect country counterpoint to the modern walk-in shower. A salvaged crossing sign above 3-year-old Collier's antique iron bed honors his hometown's history as a railroad town. Elements like an antique barn door and cedar fence boards (from the Crouches' last home) planked on the ceiling allow for an eventual "express transfer" from little boy room to tween hangout. This kids' space is as creative as the pint-size crafters who use it. To eek out every last inch in this nook, Lauren made a desk by floating the top of an antique wallpaper prep table between two white bookcases. Just above, a magnetic mint green shelf from an old pharmacy serves as a happy backdrop for mini masterpieces. Lauren loves to kick off her (usually muddy) boots on the family's second-hand blue bench after working in the yard. "This antique swing was a Mother's Day gift from my husband, Chad," says Lauren. "As soon as we hung it, the house officially felt like home." Lauren says that the best source for finding outdoor furnishings is going-out-of-business sales. The family's red bistro table and weathered white chairs, for example, came from an old ice-cream shop. Lauren's secret to making her porch feel like a room? "Not worrying about whether something belongs inside or out," she says. "Our chippy dresser offers plenty of garden-tool storage and potting counter space." Say hello to the hardest-working porch in Georgia. As you've seen, it's a sitting room, mudroom, potting station, and breakfast nook rolled into one—the perfect way to take advantage of a yearly average temperature of 62 degrees. "Evenings on the porch are always better with an ice-cold glass of sweet tea," Lauren says, pictured here with her family. "That, and cranked-up Johnny Cash accompanied by Chad's enthusiastic crooning!" https://www.countryliving.com/home-design/house-tours/g3208/southern-georgia-farmhouse/ More Videos: #tinyhouse #tinyhouses #smallhouse #cottage #cabin #tiny #tinyhome ============================ #TinyHouseLover is a channel sharing homes under 500 sq ft. 10 Homes That Show How We’ll Live in the Future

Looking back throughout history, we can clearly see that societies developed a wide variety of architectural styles when it came to their housing. And this makes complete sense, given the fact that they had to deal with different construction materials, environments, climates, threats, and situations, depending on where they were. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 Find more lists at: http://www.toptenz.net Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from TopTenzNet! Inside Robert Downey Jr.’s Windmill Home in the Hamptons | Open Door | Architectural Digest

04:59
In this episode of Open Door, Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, Avengers) and wife Susan Downey turned a converted windmill into a stylish and charming Hamptons home. In this funny, full-access house tour, the Downeys show off their favorite art, let you into their closets and explain why their cats have full run of the place. "We wanted something we haven’t seen a million times,” the Iron Man star says, describing the property itself as well as the decorative ministrations of AD100 designer Joe Nahem and the team at New York City–based Fox-Nahem Associates. The Downeys originally met Nahem two summers ago, when they rented the heavenly Amagansett country house the designer shares with his partner, Jeffrey Fields. The Downeys said goodbye to Nahem and Fields that summer with a request that the designers alert them to any particularly enticing properties coming onto the market in the Hamptons. Several months later, Nahem found a place that more than fit the bill: a late–19th century windmill folly, originally constructed as a playhouse, that had been transformed into a full-fledged residence by way of structural additions grafted onto the building in the decades following its construction. Among the many attributes of the estate were proximity to the town of East Hampton coupled with the privacy of a secluded location, enchanting gardens conjured by landscape designer Joseph Tyree for the home’s previous owners, and those sublime trees that dot the lawns like masterpieces of sculpture. Nahem didn’t have much time to revel in the triumph of his matchmaking. As soon as his clients acquired the property, they gave their designer a mere six weeks to transform the home into a Downey-rific sanctuary keyed to the couple’s adventurous aesthetic tastes and the comfort of their children, five-year-old son Exton and three-year-old daughter Avri. (The actor has another son, 24-year-old Indio, with his ex-wife, Deborah Falconer.) Happily, once the holiday season was over, Nahem and his team were able to return to the home and begin the renovation in earnest. One of the biggest changes was the reconfiguration of the living room that lies just beyond the octagonal entry foyer at the base of the windmill. To give the transitional area a greater sense of place, the designer sunk the living room several feet and anchored it with a massive wraparound fireplace wall by ceramic artist Peter Lane. Another major component of the renovation involved rethinking the pool area to suit the Downeys’ vision of easy, breezy outdoor leisure. Rather than making the guesthouse do double duty as a swimming cabana, as it had in the previous scheme, Nahem designed a freestanding poolside pavilion, in collaboration with Alveary Architecture, replete with a dining setup centered on a mosaic-topped table by Kelly Behun Studio, an outdoor living room and bar, and a television almost as large as the screens at the local multiplex. As for the interiors of the house itself, the mix represents an amiable consensus among the Downeys and their designer: pedigreed pieces and unpretentious off-the-rack staples, poppy colors and soothing neutrals, eccentric accents and discreet luxuries. It’s an idiosyncratic assemblage that speaks equally to the actor’s puckish spirit, his wife’s concerns for efficiency and ease, and Nahem’s finesse in crafting eminently livable homes with a touch of otherworldly magic. 11 Years Living Off-Grid in an Earthship Style House

08:49
Hélène Dubé and her partner Alain Neveu from Es-Cargo (http://www.es-cargo.qc.ca/) have lived off-grid in Quebec, Canada for 11 years in a self-built earthship style home made of recycled tires filled with earth and large south-facing windows. *** Hélène is giving a workshop on April 1st if you want to check it out: https://ah186.isrefer.com/go/affhd0002/AFFHD0002/ Hélène donne un atelier le 1er avril intitulé: "Planification d'un rêve, techniques de construction et réglementation." Pour en savoir plus: https://ah186.isrefer.com/go/affhd0002/AFFHD0002/ *** Their water is gravity fed from a spring-filled cistern placed up the hill from their home, their power comes from solar energy, and they use a composting outhouse toilet. For refrigeration, they make their own ice during the winter by freezing water in recycled windshield washer jugs outside, and then they store them in a root cellar inside unplugged chest freezers insulated with sawdust. They manage to keep their food cold with these homemade ice blocks from January to July, and then they get ice blocks from a neighbour. For hot water they use approximately 200 lbs of propane each year. For heat they have a homemade rocket stove that is an efficient way to burn wood, and they also use it as a cooktop in the winter. They would eventually like to be self sufficient in their food production and have gardens, hens, and they've begun to build an aquaponic system as well. But they do find that growing all of their own food, running workshops, and staying on top of all their other projects to be an incredible amount of work for just two people. They're hoping to attract more people to the property to form a small community of inspired and like-minded permaculture enthusiasts. To learn more about Hélène and Alain's off-grid lifestyle and about any upcoming projects and workshops, you can check out their website and follow them on Facebook: Es-Cargo: http://www.es-cargo.qc.ca/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ESCargoQc Their posts are in French but they both speak French and English. Absolutely Beautiful Farmhouse style Tiny Home with lots of historical reclaimed materials

01:21
Absolutely Beautiful Farmhouse style Tiny Home with lots of historical reclaimed materials Price: $68,000 Location: Parker, Colorado Size: 264 sq. ft. FOR SALE This Tiny Home is built on a Trailer Made trailer - the best Tiny Home foundation in the business! We can also send a full Spec Sheet that will give you all the detailed specs. We DO OFFER TINY HOME FINANCING! There is so much history and charm in this 8x24, 264 sq ft Tiny Home! When you enter the walls of this beauty, you'll find lots of big farmhouse charm packed into a Tiny Home for simple living. During design and construction, we paid close attention to keeping things as traditional as possible to the old farmhouse style. We did add some modern amenities such as air conditioning, running water, and a flush toilet, but in many areas, we were able to stay true to the traditions of the farmhouse styles from the early 1900's. Here are a few of the fun pieces of history in this unique, beautiful Tiny House: • Accent wall made from authentic shiplap from a 1945 Texas farmhouse. • The two vintage candlestick sconces adorning the shiplap wall were found by our Designer at a Texas Junk and Antique Market. • The white antique light fixture in the ceiling is one of the harder-to-find fixtures of this type as it has the "ribs" or "gills" at the top that also shed light. • The sinks (bathroom and kitchen) are antiques that have been repurposed from another Texas farmhouse. • Antique bathroom door and door hardware • The reclaimed beadboard ceilings came from two different places. The white beadboard came from a farmhouse in Brown County, TX dating back to the mid-to-late 1890's. Originally a two-room dogtrot house with a fireplace in each room, the dogtrot was enclosed with additions in the early 1900's. During the recent demolition, the dogtrot walls were discovered. The insides of walls on the addition were lined with newspaper dated 1901. The other colors of beadboard ceiling came from a farmhouse built in the early 1900's in Gatesville, TX. The house was a unique, L-shaped house with a large L-shaped front porch that was shaded by several huge pecan trees. • For the flooring, we went with solid maple floors. In keeping with the authentic farmhouse look, we chose to "roughen up" the floors by exposing the nail heads and intentionally putting a few hammer marks and scratches in the floors. Back in the day, building materials where chosen based on limited material availability at the time, often resulting in random-width planks of wood. As such, we incorporated several different widths of flooring (4", 6", and 8"). • For the lower cabinets and built-in seating, we chose a soft, warm color that was traditional in the early 1900's farmhouse style houses. We don't quite know what the color was called back then, but the color we chose is called "duck egg blue". The product we used is a chalk paint by Annie Sloan. • For the upper cabinets, we went with the traditional open shelving look. Historically, open shelving was the norm in the earlier days of farmhouses. However, as railroads opened up across the country and gave people better access to a variety of materials, cabinets with glass fronts became more popular. We chose to stay with the earlier farmhouse look of open shelving. • For the countertops, we built our own custom countertops from a product called Galvalume. This product allows us to showcase a traditional galvanized metal look, but it also provides a coating to protect against corrosion. 20 Most Luxurious Dog Houses

07:45
Everyone loves their dog, but some people take it to the extreme. Here are 20 of the world's most luxurious dog houses. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr #10 - The Standard Home This dog house is anything but standard. It features multiple windows, 60 square feet of space inside, air conditioning and a front porch light with its own dog controlled switch. The porch is made to replicate the owner’s, complete with flower pots on either side of the porch. It cost the owners $7,200 to make their dog house feel like a home. #9 - Home on the Ranch This ranch style dog house is complete with its very own doggie swimming pool. The house has stone siding and bone decorations on the storm shutters, inside the same level of craftsmanship is used with the wooden floors, dog decals along the wallpaper, custom dog beds, and air conditioning. With the addition of the pool, this model will cost you $7,500. #8 - Complete With a Hot Tub After some searching, we found this cabin style dog house on the Weather King’s website. The company that makes these spectacular dog houses is called J.C. Metal Building Sales. They first started by creating storage sheds, barns and lofted cabins. The are stationed in Deland, Florida and now make some of the best dog houses you could create. Each house can be customized with energy saving materials, AC, and other amenities. This model simply says price upon request, but since there are a deck and a hot tub, we think this pad is probably too pricey for our budget. #7 - A Georgetown Home Another great find from the world renowned artists at Beyond the Crate is the Georgetown dog house. The home is modeled after the homes in Georgetown. The amenities in this house are running water, heat, air conditioning, and lights. This one is slightly cheaper than other models with its price tag starting at only $10,000. #6 - The Victorian This Victorian style dog house is spacious enough for three or four dogs to roam and have plenty of room. This dog house is a replica of the owner’s larger Victorian mansion. The owner commissioned the project after a large owl almost carried off one of her Pomeranians. The entire unit cost her a cool $20,000, but it is large enough for her to hangout as well. #5 - The Brick Mansion This brick mansion design dog house is also completely customizable. The minds at Beyond the Crate are the proud designers of this luxurious piece. It has amenities like running water, lights, heat, and air conditioning. Living in the lap of luxury does cost a pretty penny, this model’s price tag starts at $25,000. #4 - California Hills Living Beyond the Crate is the designer genius behind this extravagant home. It is called the Celebrity Hacienda Dog House and is modeled after some of the celebrity homes in the hills of California. This house is custom made with many different features to choose from such as running water, lights and air conditioning. The price reflects the different amenities you’ve had added, but this Californian mansion starts at $30,000. #3 - The Taj Mahal This fancy dog house was clearly modeled after the famous palace, the Taj Mahal. It sets you back $40,000 but giving man’s best friend the very best is the only thing on most pet owners’ minds, even if it costs a fortune. #2 - Paris Hilton’s Dog House Everyone knows this heiress gets exactly what she wants, including the most extravagant dog house for her many pups. The dogs reside in a two-story Italian style villa completed with roof tiles and wrought iron railings on the second-floor balcony. Inside you’ll find multiple dog beds, food and water stations, heat and air conditioning. Outside they have their own little fenced in yard complete with a tree to do their business. Money is certainly not something Paris worries about, which is probably why this dog mansion cost $325,000, she spared no expense. #1 - Living in Luxury Each and every one of these dog houses is luxurious and pricey beyond compare. This dog house, however, takes the cake as being the most expensive dog house in the world. It was commissioned by a surgeon in England back in the beginning of 2008. It is for her two Great Danes and costs just over $417,000. It includes everything you could image from sheepskin-lined, temperature-controlled beds, a 52-inch plasma screen tv, a $250,000 sound system to automatic dispensers, a saline treatment spa bath, and a retina scanner to keep out the common riff-raff.

Our farmhouse is everything we dreamed of and more.

We were looking for a particular style - we wanted a home that suited our new lifestyle. I wanted the flexibility to design my own floorplan and I also wanted to be able to personalise my home with accent pieces that I had sourced elsewhere. Shelton Homes was one of the very first builders we contacted as his website was a showcase of colonial homes and this was the style we were seeking.

Houses That We Dreamt Of

01:00
"Houses That We Dreamt Of: The Interiors of Delphine and Reed Krakoff" is the long-awaited monograph on the homes of Delphine and Reed Krakoff, unique voices in contemporary American design. Passion and obsession has driven the creation of their homes, each a master class in combining a grand space with world-class furnishings and artworks, with a savoir faire that only an American fashion designer (Reed) and a Paris-trained interior decorator (Delphine) can possess. Because of the unique lens that the Krakoffs train on their spaces, combining expertise in crafting the architectural space with their personal design and art collections and a refined understanding of livable spaces, these rooms are personal and inviting. Some of their houses have been widely published to acclaim, while others are presented here for the first time. With texts from personal friends of the Krakoffs, such as Martha Stewart, Hamish Bowles, Simon Doonan, Tory Burch, and Jacques Grange, who are brilliant designers and writers in their own right, the book will inspire interiors and design lovers with these projects of passion and finesse that represent dreams realized. Can We Turn a Shed Into a Mortgage Free Tiny House?

Are we crazy? Maybe. Or maybe this will work and we will have an offgrid house that nurtures our souls. We have traveled the country in a van for the last few months, tried out conventional tiny homes, and lived full time in an RV for 5 months. With this much mileage and experience I don't think this one will be that hard. No electricity, no sewer, no internet, no problem. The shell comes next week and we will be working all summer on getting the inside finished. Come with us for the journey! Inside Lily Aldridge's Nashville Home | Open Door

06:29
In this episode of 'Open Door', Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated swimsuit supermodel Lily Aldridge gives Architectural Digest a tour of the cozy Nashville home she shares with her husband Caleb Followill and their daughter. If you happen to be driving through Nashville in December and see a stately brick Tudor Revival house spectacularly ablaze with holiday lights, you just might have hit on the dwelling of Lily Aldridge and Caleb Followill. While she is admittedly better known as a Victoria’s Secret bombshell and face of Bulgari than an overzealous homemaker, and her other half as the lead singer of rock band Kings of Leon, the couple, parents to six-year-old daughter Dixie, enthusiastically put family life center stage when they’re off duty. When it comes to model–rocker unions, domesticity is a somewhat foreign concept. Studio 54 set the stage for Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall’s glamorous courtship. Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour’s volatile romance played out in a series of music videos that ended with her in a coffin (not surprisingly, their unscripted relationship fizzled in almost as dramatic a fashion). But for Aldridge and Followill, who rarely make public appearances à deux, the theatrics appear to be reserved for their charming abode, composed of grand archways, Persian carpets, and a gloriously tiled kitchen. “Home is everything,” says the California native, who relocated to Nashville after meeting her Tennessee-born husband more than a decade ago. Dixie’s birth sparked the couple’s move from a kicky condo located near the city’s nightlife scene and sports arena to “a home near a great school,” Aldridge says of how their priorities shifted upon becoming parents. She immediately fell in love with this one: “It was beautiful, comfy, cozy.” She pauses. “My husband, on the other hand, wanted to move into a different house.” To help persuade him that the Tudor Revival, though a bit old-fashioned in appearance, was the perfect address, she called on designers and close friends Louisa Pierce and Emily Ward of Pierce & Ward. The duo count Karen Elson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Dakota Johnson among their starry clientele, and Pierce had previously decorated Aldridge and Followill’s condo. We both travel a lot for work, but we do everything in our power to have a normal life here. A recognition of the 1930 house’s good bones helped seal the deal: wood floors, beamed ceilings, expansive windows. “I love those details, and they’re hard to re-create,” Aldridge explains. Her husband gave in, and in the span of just four months, during much of which Followill was on tour and Aldridge out of town on modeling assignments, Pierce and Ward renovated and decorated every square inch of the place. For the decor, Aldridge presented the designers with a Pinterest board of inspirations ranging from romantic English country houses to exotic Moroccan riads. “We were all on the same page,” says Ward, who, with Pierce, cheerfully scavenged antiques stores and eBay for eclectica such as leather club chairs, poufs, chandeliers, and a mélange of midcentury-modern pieces. Each room is imbued with a relaxed, family-friendly elegance. The kitchen features open cabinetry with a decorative retro tile backsplash, and it’s where Followill holds court. The living room is framed in arched bookshelves with a fireplace she keeps crackling “until it’s unbearably hot outside” and a pair of club chairs that remind her of the ones her artist father had in his studio during her youth. “The leather was literally peeling off the seats,” she recalls. Artist builds his Savannah studio with shipping containers

11:42
Architect, artist, designer Julio Garcia had been designing plans for shipping container homes for a decade before he found the perfect place to build one: on a long, narrow stretch of his property in Savannah, Georgia. “I’m a big believer we should be adapting to the environment… I remember walking out and looking at the yard and thinking oh my god the land is calling for this linear design.” He picked up two 40 foot shipping containers from the Port of Savannah and, thanks to much advance planning, he was able to install them without removing one tree from his property. He offset the two boxes, cut out the interior container walls and added I-beams, a shed roof and clerestory windows in the center to provide plenty of daylighting. “There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re inside a container so in the design we had to address that. I’ve been in a couple of projects and they don’t function very well and you’re like, ‘Oh, I still feel like I’m in a metal box’.” Garcia believes containers can make for affordable homes: “you could put up a structure like this for about 50K”, but much of the interior was salvaged from other job sites (i.e. the drywall and the kitchen). His Price Street Projects creates plans that are “almost do-it-yourself plans” for shipping container homes and he has installed commercial container spaces, but he’s a big believer that the site should determine the design. http://pricestreetprojects.com/ Original story: https://faircompanies.com/videos/artist-builds-his-savannah-studio-with-shipping-containers

Green Homes: A tour of how we live & work off grid in our straw bale home - Riverstone Studios

17:02
A tour of how we live & work off grid in our straw bale home - Riverstone Studios showing the interior of our home/studio, wind turbine, solar panels, and the finishing work in our home. This is our version of Green Living. What's yours? A lot of comments are asking about building codes. We live in Rural Saskatchewan Canada. Our particular Municipal Government required building plans and a business plan for sustaining our livelihood on a section of land they deemed as the "Eco-village" which allowed us to be pretty flexible with our building style...the catch - In order to build a building not recognized by building code means: no banks & no insurance! Lending institutions want proof of insurability so they rely on insurance companies...Insurance companies want low risk so they rely on building codes and passed inspections. Permits were taken on our gas connection but the rest of the build we did ourselves. Because it is non commercial and rural, we are allowed to wire and plumb ourselves. We are not connected to municipal water or to provincial electricity, so again, there are no governing bodies with direct interests in our build. If you are interested in seeing the Before and After of our house go here: http://riverstonestudios.blogspot.ca/2010/08/two-steps-forwardno-looking-back.html
