Mary Mount School Reconciliation
High school students Molo have found a way to deal with ethnic hatred, the vice that threatens to consume our country. Molo was at the heart of the violence that rocked the country in the aftermath of the 2007 presidential election. After the violence many students and teachers returned to school carrying with them deep hatred for what they perceived as rival communities. At the Mary Mount School in Molo, focus is now on bringing the students back together after the violence threatened to split the school into two halves. Our reporter Sheila Sendeyo has filed this report.

The Story of Kisima
Kisima School offers secondary education to children and young people who would otherwise not be able to get this opportunity. Most of the students come from the four districts of Northern Kenya that Kisima Pastoralists' Centre is targeting, but we also take some students from other regions of Kenya. The reasons for doing this are: - To promote integration between the communities of Northern Kenya and wider Kenyan society - To make the project relevant to the community in the neighbourhood of the school - To address the needs of young people from other districts of Kenya For more information regarding the school and how to make donations please visit: www.kisima.org

Kiva Entrepreneur John from Kenya
http://www.kiva.org - Kiva lets you make a loan to a specific low-income entrepreneur -- empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty. John Mwaniki, Kenya, Health: Medical Clinic http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=110314 John Mwaniki is a 55-year-old father of two children. He lives and works in Nakuru where he has had a private health practice since 1989. He provides reproductive health, curative services, family planning, PAK and minor surgeries. He is trained as a nurse, in family planning, and general reproductive health.P John sees between 140 and 150 clients a month. His clients range from those in the slum to more middle class people. He says it's important to balance his clientele as oftentimes the clients from the slum cannot pay their bills. He says he sometimes feels guilty but he cannot serve everyone all the time for free.P He is asking for a loan so that he can repair his car that he uses to visit distant patients. The rest he will use for improvements to the clinic like painting, buying drugs, and repairing the floor. He said the most important aspect is the car, as many of his clients dont have the means to come to him.P Note: Mr. Mwaniki's interview was taped prior to an informational meeting where he and other borrowers (all primary care providers) were informed that the maximum amount they could receive for their first loan was $1200 USD . Mr. Yegon agreed that he would take $1200 USD but the interviewer did not have time to re-tape the interview.

Baraka Agricultural College, Kenya - Gorta Scholarship Scheme
You can improve their life. Click to Donate now: https://www.gorta.org/monthly-donation Baraka Agricultural College is situated in Molo District, seven kilometers from Molo Town in western Kenya. The college was founded as a Farmers Training Centre in 1974 and since 1986 has promoted sustainable agriculture and rural development in collaboration with a number of strategic partners. Gorta's partnership with Baraka dates back to the late 1970s and has contributed towards establishing one of the most respected agricultural training centres in Africa. Gortas support has included the improvement of college infrastructure and provision of personnel and of course - the Gorta Scholarship Scheme. Since the late 1990s, the Gorta Scholarship Scheme has been an effective and innovative way of empowering rural communities of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Each year the scheme invites applications from candidates in these three countries to undertake a sixteen-month certificate course in Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development. In return for receiving the scholarship, students commit to working for their community for one year following graduation. This is a highly cost effective way of empowering communities from within. Most of these communities have no access to government development services. Applicants must have farming experience and must be involved in community development activity. William Keyah, Gortas country representative for Kenya, visited the college to meet with the Coordinator of the Scholarship Scheme and to meet some of the students currently enrolled in the scheme. H1N1 Flu cases in Kenya high School
Parents of Kenya high school are this evening a worried lot after the ministry of public health confirmed the outbreak of the dreaded swine flu in the institution with at least 20 cases having been confirmed. Scores of panicky parents arrived at the school only to be turned away by the school authorities. Efforts by citizen TV to gain access to the school also proved fruitless.

Hardship Areas: Makuyu
The government announced the degazettement of at least 25 areas, previously regarded as hardship zones. In doing this the government argued that the area had relatively improved in terms of development such that public servants in the areas did not deserve a hardship allowance. Just to get a feel of what is a hardship area and what is not, our crew travelled to both central and Eastern provinces to sample one area that was declassified as a hardship zone and another that was classified as a moderate hardship zone. Sheila Sendeyo reports that residents of Makuyu Division in Maragua District were not amused by the government's decision to degazzette the area from the hardship list, insisting that there was no development worth talking about in the area.
